How marks percentage is worked out
Your overall percentage is the total marks you scored divided by the total marks available, times one hundred. Adding every subject before dividing gives a fair overall figure, because subjects with higher maximum marks naturally carry more weight.

Percentage = (Σ obtained ÷ Σ total) × 100. Enter each subject's obtained and total
marks; the calculator sums both columns, divides, and reports your percentage along with a common
grade band from A+ down to Fail.

Frequently asked questions
How is the overall percentage calculated?
The calculator adds up all obtained marks and all total marks, then divides the two sums and multiplies by 100 — not by averaging per-subject percentages.
What grade bands are used?
A common scheme is used: 90%+ A+, 80%+ A, 70%+ B+, 60%+ B, 50%+ C, 40%+ D and below 40% Fail. Your institution's bands may differ.
Can subjects have different maximum marks?
Yes. Enter each subject's own total; because totals are summed first, subjects with larger maximums are weighted correctly.
