What is a salary hike?
A salary hike is the raise you receive at an appraisal or when changing jobs, expressed as a percentage of your current pay. It lets you compare offers and increments on an equal footing regardless of the base salary.
The formula
Hike % = (New salary − Current salary) ÷ Current salary × 100. The increment amount is
simply New salary − Current salary. For example, going from ₹50,000 to ₹60,000 is a ₹10,000
increment and a 20% hike.

Either works, as long as both figures use the same period. The hike percentage is identical whether you enter monthly or annual salaries.
How do I find the new salary for a target hike?
Multiply your current salary by (1 + hike ÷ 100). For a 20% hike on ₹50,000, that is 50000 × 1.20 = ₹60,000.
Is the hike calculated on the current salary?
Yes. The percentage is always measured against your current salary, which is the base you are increasing from.
