Characters with and without spaces
Many forms, bios and meta descriptions are limited by character count rather than word count. This tool shows two figures live as you type: characters including spaces and characters excluding spaces. The first is what most platforms count against a limit; the second is useful for typography and layout work where whitespace is handled separately.

Frequently asked questions
What counts as a character?
Every letter, digit, punctuation mark, symbol and space is one character. Line breaks also count in the with-spaces figure.
Why show two different totals?
Some limits count spaces, such as social posts, while others care only about visible characters, so showing both saves you guessing.
Does it count emoji correctly?
Emoji are measured by JavaScript string length, so some multi-part emoji count as two or more characters — which matches how many platforms measure them.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Counting happens locally in your browser and nothing is stored.
