What is a barcode?
A barcode encodes numbers or letters as a pattern of parallel bars of varying width that a laser or camera scanner reads in an instant. Retail products, warehouse shelves, event tickets and shipping labels all rely on barcodes to identify items quickly and without typing.
Which format should I choose?
CODE128 is the most flexible for general use and accepts letters and digits. EAN-13 and UPC are the retail product codes you see on groceries, EAN-8 suits small packages, and ITF-14 marks shipping cartons. CODE39, MSI and Pharmacode serve inventory and pharmaceutical uses. Each format expects a specific length or character set — if your value is not valid, the tool tells you so you can fix it.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my value show an error?
Retail formats are strict about length and characters — EAN-13 needs 12 to 13 digits, UPC needs 11 to 12 and EAN-8 needs 7 to 8. Switch to CODE128 if you want to encode free-form text.
Is the check digit added for me?
Yes. For EAN and UPC formats the final check digit is calculated automatically, so you can enter the value without it.
Can I print these barcodes?
Yes. Download the PNG and place it on your label or document. Print it large enough for your scanner to read reliably.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. Barcodes are rendered entirely in your browser with a local library; nothing you enter leaves your device.
