Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded to compress it?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser with the Canvas API; the file is never uploaded, stored or seen by any server.
Why did my file get bigger instead of smaller?
If the original was already heavily compressed, or was a small PNG, re-encoding as JPEG can add size. Lower the quality slider, or use a tool better suited to that format.
Does compressing lose quality?
JPEG compression is lossy, so some detail is discarded. Higher slider values keep more detail; the live preview lets you judge before downloading.
What format is the result?
The compressed file is always a JPEG (.jpg), which gives the best size savings for photographs.
